AndhraPradesh Govt Cancels Machilipatnam Port Deal

The YCP Government has issued an order canceling the Machilipatnam Port Private Limited Concession Agreement. This deal is with regard to the construction of Machilipatnam Port and the resumption of 412.57 hectares of leased land. The State Government is now planning to claim compensation for damages from Machilipatnam Port Private Limited. This development comes as a major blow to Navayuga Engineering Company Limited which has been handling the project since the foundation was laid in February 2019. It came a week after Navayuga Engineering Company Limited was asked to step down from of the Polavaram Project. The Machilipatnam Port development project was born in 2008. Maytas Infra Pvt Ltd, SREI-SCC and NCC received the contract. However, there has been no development what-so-since 11 years. In February 2019, CM Chandrababu Naidu then approved the induction of Navayuga Engineering Company Limited as the lead promoter for the project estimated to be worth Rs 12,000 crore. The YCP Government canceled the Machilipatnam Port deal within hours after TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu accused YS Jaganmohan Reddy of trying to give it to Telangana. The allegation made by the Official Opposition was condemned by the Ruling Party. Machilipatnam Port which is estimated to spread across 4,800 hectares could have a capacity of 150 million tonnes if it is fully operational.
